This is a report into the Australian Consumer Price Index (CPI)1 for the quarter ending 2026-03-31. The chart below sets out these results over the last 2 years.
The bar chart shows the % movement in the CPI for quarter-on-quarter and also the overall index for each quarter between 2024-06-30 and 2026-03-31.
The results show that the CPI index had a 1.4% increase in the latest quarter of 2026-03-31 and this movement was materially higher than the previous quarter of 0.59%. This corresponds to the axis on the left hand side. The trend in CPI movements for the last 4 quarters has been mostly upwards. Over the last 2 years, the highest quarterly movement was 1.4% in 2026-03-31 followed by 0.59% in 2025-12-31 while the lowest was 0.2% in 2024-12-31.
The overlaid line shows the overall index as 101.7 for the latest quarter of 2026-03-31 with this being an increase than the previous quarter of 100.3. This corresponds to the axis on the right hand side. The trend for the index over the last 4 quarters has been rising always.
